Best Practices For Blogging
- KEEP PRIVATE INFORMATION PRIVATE: You might consider making your blog private. If you keep it public make sure to keep information that might put you or others in danger to yourself. Such information includes: home address, work address, contact information, etc.
- ASSUME THAT WHAT YOU POST ON THE WEB IS THERE FOREVER: Don't post anything that you don't want others, including future employers, to see. This includes posts, pictures, and videos.
- NEVER MEET WITH SOMEONE YOU ONLY KNOW THROUGH BLOGGING: …pretty much common sense.
The Pedagogy of Blogs
Blogs are a great way to keep a connection between teachers, students, and parents. There are many different ways to use a blog as a teacher. As I have explored different educational useful blogs, I have developed my own way to stay connected with students and parents through blogging. One of the blogs I looked over is kidblog. Kidblog is a website where teachers can set up each student their own personal blog where only the teacher, student, and parent can view it. This is a great way to keep in touch and on track with each student individually in an organized manner. It can also be a way for parents to see exactly what their child has been doing in school and what they need to be doing. I thought this was a great tool for teachers to stay connected.
The next two blogs were two very good ideas as well, but were more public and group oriented than kidblog. The first blog, edudemic, is a blog that shows a great way for students to seek out more help with tips that are posted. I especially like the For Students tab that links helpful tools for students. These tips include how to improve writing, tips for taking notes, and how to do research. I think this is a great resource for students to go to when they are struggling with something specific.
The last blog I found is a way to keep a sort of syllabus available for both students and parents. It is a blog that keeps up to date important information like what assignments they need to be doing for each subject. It also is an easy way to find schedule times and other miscellaneous information. Overall, I think all three of these blogs are great. If I were to create an educational purposed blog I would take things from each of the three to make the perfect way to stay connected and on task with my students and their parents.
